Fifteen-year-old boy dies in bike race with friends, say Tawau cops

KOTA KINABALU: A 15-year-old boy was killed while racing motorcycles with his friends Tawau, say police.

Tawau Police Chief Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the incident took place at KM23 of Jalan Merotai at about 9pm on Wednesday (May 4).

ACP Jasmin said police received a tip-off from the public that four youths were racing motorcycles in the area.

He said police learned that there was a collision which caused the death of the boy.

"It was later found after testing that the deceased victim had Covid-19," he said in a statement on Thursday (May 4).

He said three others sustained light injuries and none of the four, including the deceased, had valid motorcycle licences.

"The three have since been detained under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," ACP Jasmin said.
