Saarani: Take preventive measures to prevent breakout in Perak

IPOH: Precautionary measures must be taken by the state Immigration Department to ensure that the riot at a detention depot in Bandar Baharu, Kedah, does not happen at the Langkap Immigration depot in Perak, says Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad.

The Kedah case could occur in Perak if the authorities were not careful, said the Mentri Besar, referring to the “prison break” at the Sri Impian Immigration depot early yesterday.

He said the ingenuity of detainees should never be underestimated, as they would always find ways to break out of the depots.

“Although the Langkap depot is not under the responsibility of the state government per se, the centre is, however, located in Perak.

“So I am hoping what had happened in Kedah will be a lesson to all of us.

“And the authorities at the Langkap depot must take necessary measures to prevent a similar incident,” he told reporters after distributing Hari Raya goodies to uniformed bodies at the state Secretariat Building here yesterday.

Saarani also said that the authorities concerned must always stay vigilant to prevent detainees from escaping.
