PETALING JAYA: As speculation about an early general election picks up steam, political parties have begun testing the waters by reaching out to bitter rivals in the hope of forging alliances to take on the might of the Barisan Nasional.

And even that seems to be an uphill task, with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) and Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) each claiming their leaders were approached by the other side to forge cooperation.
