JOHOR BARU: The reopening of the border between Malaysia and Singapore will spur the country's economic recovery, says Johor’s Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar.
He expressed his joy over the reopening of the border, adding that it would also stimulate Johor's recovery post-Covid-19.
"The symbiotic nature of the relationship with our immediate neighbours will be further repaired with the reopening.
"Our socio-economic well-being will also improve as families are reunited after so long and more businesses can slowly resume as people can get back to as normal a life as possible.
"I would like to thank both the Malaysian and Singapore governments for all their hard work and cooperation towards reopening the borders," said His Majesty in a Facebook post on Friday (April 1).
Tuanku Sultan Ibrahim also reminded the public that although the nation was moving into an endemic phase, everyone must still adhere to basic standard operating procedures (SOP).
"There is still a lot that is unknown with regards to the long-term effects of the disease or its variants.
"We must all stay vigilant and maintain the new norm habits that we have adapted to over the last couple of years to reduce the risks to our health," said His Majesty.
Meanwhile, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi also expressed his gratitude over the reopening of the border on his Facebook page.
"Welcome back to all Malaysians who are working in Singapore. May this Ramadan be more meaningful for you and your family.
"Thank you to all agencies that have worked hard to ensure that the entry process of travellers from Singapore runs smoothly," he said.
