One-week toll waiver at two Singapore entry points

PETALING JAYA: There will be a toll fare waiver for seven days beginning tomorrow for all vehicle classes at the two toll entry points from Singapore to Johor, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Prime Minister said in conjunction with the reopening of the land border, there will be a toll exemption at the Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) at the Johor Causeway and the Second Link in Tanjung Kupang, Gelang Patah.

“Beginning April 1, Malaysia and Singapore will allow all fully-vaccinated travellers to cross the land border without having to undergo quarantine or perform Covid-19 testing, including pre-departure and upon-arrival testing.

“The toll exemption applies to all types of vehicles for seven days, from April 1 to April 7, to facilitate cross-border travel with Singapore,” Ismail Sabri said yesterday.

“The exemption is in addition to the road charge exemption imposed on Singapore-registered private vehicles when entering Malaysia by land at both locations,” he added.

Ismail Sabri said PLUS had estimated that at least 42,000 vehicles will enter Malaysia via the Johor Causeway and the Second Link every day.

“Therefore, PLUS in collaboration with the Johor government as well as the relevant ministries and agencies are actively making final preparations to ensure a smooth journey on the highway in conjunction with the reopening.

“This includes preparations at toll plazas, rest areas and all public facilities provided on the PLUS Highway,” he said.

On a separate note, Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said a RM20 road charge has been waived for Singapore-registered private vehicles entering Malaysia.

“The move will benefit Malaysians who own Singapore-registered vehicles.

“I believe the waiver will help everyone reach home in the shortest time possible smoothly. Please drive carefully and safely,” he said in a video posted on his Facebook page yesterday.

Dr Wee also reminded those who like to travel to Malaysia to renew or reload their Touch ‘n Go cards.

“Please also register your vehicles and install the RFID VEP tag,” he said.

Mentri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has assured that all lanes at the two checkpoints will be fully operational.

Onn visited the Tanjung Kupang CIQ with Dr Wee to see the final preparations for reopening the border.

He added that agencies such as the Johor Information Department are also preparing infographics on the new SOP to ease travel among the people.
