PAC to probe MySejahtera issue, Khairy and Tengku Zafrul called to testify

PETALING JAYA: Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin and Finance Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz are among those to be called to testify before the Public Accounts Committee (PAC), says its chairman Wong Kah Woh.

"It is appropriate for the PAC to hold proceedings related to the issue of the MySejahtera app," Wong said in a press statement on Wednesday (March 30).

He noted that the Parliamentary bi-partisan committee was empowered under House Order 77(1)(d) to probe matters which "the Committee feels compelled to so do".

To kick start the proceedings, Wong said that the committee intends to call Khairy and Tengku Zafrul as witnesses.

"The date and time of the proceedings will be made known in due time," he added.

On Tuesday (March 29), Wong said that the PAC was considering beginning a probe into the procurement of the MySejahtera app and personal data protection.

This came after several leaders, MPs and civil society called for more transparency and accountability in the matter.

Khairy had since clarified the issues raised over the proposed procurement exercise and assured data protection.

The Health Minister had also agreed for the MySejahtera to be raised and debated in Dewan Negara on Thursday (March 31).

Several civil rights bodies such as Transparency International Malaysia supported moves for the bi-partisan parliamentary committee to look into the procurement of the MySejahtera app.

Meanwhile, Wong said that representatives from the Prime Minister's Department would also be called to testify before the PAC.

The hearings, he added, would focus on the cost, data protection and steps to prevent data from being misused.
