I don't envy the PM, says Ahmad Zahid

KUALA LUMPUR: I am not envious that Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is Prime Minister, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

"Why should I be jealous of this when I was the one who proposed him for the post," said the Umno president in his winding up speech at the party’s general assembly.

Ahmad Zahid said that he had told all of Umno’s 43 lawmakers that the party should only suggest one name for the prime ministership, which is Ismail Sabri.

In August last year, Umno had withdrawn its support towards the Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin-led government, which resulted in his resignation.

Ismail Sabri was sworn in as Prime Minister on Aug 21 last year.

Ahmad Zahid said that since an Umno leader led the federal administration, many resolutions made by the party’s general assembly were approved by the government.

"We are lucky that the Prime Minister is one of us and what we have asked from the government is meant to help the rakyat," he said.
