Dr Wee, Khairy conduct inspection at KLIA to prepare for reopening of borders

PETALING JAYA: Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong and Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin conducted an inspection at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), in preparation for the reopening of the country’s aviation borders.

“Together with Health Minister YB Khairy Jamaluddin Abu Bakar at KLIA this evening to inspect the readiness of Malaysia's premier international gateway ahead of the 1 April 2022 reopening of our aviation borders,” Dr Wee said in a Facebook post on Saturday (March 19).

“Our entire aim now is to be focused on 'Safe and Seamless Entry' as the theme for our reopening, to make it easier for arriving passengers to pass through arrival health protocols at the same time as maintaining a strong deterrent against Covid-19 at the passengers' points of departure,” he explained.

Following a briefing by Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) managing director Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood, Dr Wee and Khairy took a tour of KLIA's passenger arrival halls to view the current procedures and to go over what preparations can be made ahead of the reopening.

“I want to thank YB KJ for the Health Ministry and its agencies' close cooperation with the Transport ministry and MAHB, as well as the airlines, aviation community, and Immigration Department for working to make sure that we are able to ease the airports' arrival health protocols so that Malaysia can regain its economic footing Safely and Seamlessly from 1 April onwards,” he said.
