KDEB Waste Management signs MoU with Petronas Chemical Group for the supply of plastic waste


SHAH ALAM: KDEB Waste Management (KDEBWM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Petronas Chemical Group Bhd (PCG) in a virtual ceremony for the supply of plastic waste and evaluation of potential collaboration to build waste segregation facilities in Malaysia.

Under the MoU, KDEBWM will supply plastics waste that consists of polyethylene, polypropylene as well and polyethylene terephthalate to PCG to produce circular products for the food, healthcare, household, and industrial packaging.

Signing the MoU on behalf of KDEBWM was its managing director, Ramli Mohd Tahir while PCG was represented by its managing director/chief executive officer, Mohd Yusri Mohamed Yusof.

Ramli said, “KDEBWM is always open to partnerships or collaboration that will contribute sustainably to the economy and the environment.

“We are proud to collaborate with a national company such as PCG for an initiative that we hope will be a significant milestone for the circular economy here in Malaysia.”

The MoU also covers a joint feasibility study to evaluate the commercial viability of building waste segregation facilities in Malaysia which will ensure effective plastic waste segregation.

KDEBWM has been mandated by the Selangor state government to manage solid waste, will continue to explore solid waste related business opportunities including the establishment of high-impact sustainable power plants and material recovery centres.
