Onn Hafiz sworn-in as Johor MB


JOHOR BARU: Machap assemblyman Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has been officially sworn in as the 19th Johor Mentri Besar in front of Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar at Istana Bukit Serene here.

Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim and state Umno chairman Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad, who is the former mentri besar, were present during the ceremony here on Tuesday (March 15).

Onn Hafiz, 44, received the instruments of appointment and took the oath of office in the Ceremony of Presenting the Letter of Credentials and Declaration of Appointment of the Johor Mentri Besar of Johor, which took place at Balai Menghadap inside Istana Bukit Serene.

Onn Hafiz previously held the state tourism, youth and sports committee chairman post under Hasni’s administration.

He is the great-grandson of Umno founding father Datuk Onn Jaafar and the grandson of the country's third prime minister Tun Hussein Onn.

After the swearing-in ceremony, Onn Hafiz with his family visited his forefathers' graves including Onn and Datuk Jaafar Muhammad, who was the first Johor mentri besar, at the Mahmoodiah royal mausoleum here.

In the recently concluded Johor election, Barisan Nasional recorded a landslide victory winning 40 seats out of 56 state seats.
