Eight stray dogs found dead around Ipoh shoplots, animal lover suspects poisoning

IPOH: Eight dogs, suspected of being poisoned, have been found dead around a row of unoccupied shoplots in Lahat Mines here.

A member of the public said for nearly three years, he and few others had been feeding more than 40 strays in the area.

According to Gurdip Singh, 57, when he went to feed the dogs on Monday (Feb 7), a man informed him that eight dogs were found dead by the roadside on Saturday (Feb 5).

“Another friend of mine who saw the dead dogs sent me photos and informed the Veterinary Services Department, which sent officers to take samples on the day of the incident.

“So sad to see that some of them were bleeding. I decided to lodge a police report at the Menglembu station on Monday,” he said when contacted on Tuesday (Feb 8).

He also provided a copy of his police report.

Gurdip Singh said a few days before the incident, two people allegedly from a property development company had told him to stop feeding the strays.

He said in May last year, some 17 strays were found dead at the same site but at the time, he thought they may have eaten something hazardous.

“Now, after I was told not to feed the dogs, I am not sure about what happened to the dogs last year.

“But the eight dogs (on Saturday), I'm sure they were poisoned. The Veterinary Services Department says samples from the Chemistry Department will take two to three months to come back,” he added.

Gurdip Singh said he wanted justice for the dogs and action to be taken against those responsible.
