JOHOR BARU: Johor police are fine-tuning their investigation of the sexual harassment allegations involving Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia's (Bersatu) Sedili assemblyman Rasman Ithnain.
State police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said even though police wanted to complete their investigation by this week, there were still some matters that needed looking into.
“We have held discussions with the legal division about the case, and it advised the investigation team to tidy up the investigation papers further.
“So far, 11 individuals have been called up to help with the ongoing investigation,” he said when met after attending a police operation against drug activities at Kampung Pandan here on Friday (Jan 21).
On Tuesday (Jan 18), Rasman claimed that he was was the victim of a political conspiracy after a police report was lodged against him by a fellow party member accusing him of sexual harassment.
"I deny the accusations made in the report, which are a political conspiracy and an attempt to bring down my dignity and tarnish my reputation as an elected representative.
"Such a conspiracy will not weaken my spirit to fight on and carry out the responsibilities that have been entrusted to me through the people’s mandate," he said in a statement.
The Sedili assemblyman added that he had spoken to his lawyers and would not hesitate to take legal action against anyone who attempted to smear his name and image.
He said he found out on Monday (Jan 17) afternoon that a report had been lodged against him by a Kota Tinggi Bersatu Srikandi committee member.
Rasman said he would give his full cooperation throughout the investigation to ensure that justice prevailed.
On Monday, a woman in her 20s lodged a police report claiming that she had been sexually harassed by Rasman on more than one occasion.
Rasman won the Sedili seat on an Umno ticket in the 2018 general election but later crossed over to Bersatu.
