No foul play in Pengkalan Chepa custodial death, says Bukit Aman

PETALING JAYA: Bukit Aman says there was no foul play in the recent death of a man at the Pengkalan Chepa police station in Kelantan.

Federal Integrity and Standards Compliance Department director Comm Datuk Azri Ahmad said a post-mortem was conducted at the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital in Kota Baru on Monday (Jan 17).

"It revealed the cause of death as fluid in the lungs.

"No injury or element of crime was found," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Jan 18).

He said the case had been classified as sudden death.

"Our department's Criminal Investigation Unit on Deaths in Custody will continue its probe before submitting its findings to the deputy public prosecutor for a decision,” he added.

It was reported on Monday that a 37-year-old man who was arrested for alleged drug offences died in police custody on Sunday (Jan 16).

Police were alerted to the death at around 4.35pm on Sunday.

It is learnt the deceased had been arrested for offences under Sections 12(2) and 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

He was under a four-day remand order from Sunday.
