PUTRAJAYA: Taxi, rental car and school bus drivers are set to receive a one-off RM1,000 aid under Budget 2027, with payments disbursed in stages starting tomorrow.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the one-off aid, which will be funded by RM91mil in revenue generated from the sale of H-series vehicle registration numbers, will benefit about 38,000 taxi and rental car drivers and 15,000 school bus drivers.
“We are committed to distributing the payments as soon as possible so that Indian drivers can receive the aid before Deepavali.
“The first batch will receive the aid this Wednesday, followed by other groups in stages. We hope to fulfil the Prime Minister’s intention as quickly as possible,” he said at a special press conference on Budget 2027 yesterday.
Last month, the “H” series Special Registration Number recorded a total collection of RM91.21mil through bids conducted by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) in conjunction with the 2026 Malaysia Day celebration.
The amount comprised RM89.27mil from the bids and RM1.94mil in service fees via the JPJeBid system, which ran from Sept 16 to 20.
Loke said the number H 1 recorded the highest bid at RM10.78mil, followed by H 9 (RM4.97mil), H 3 (RM4.21mil), H 5 (RM4.01mil), H 8 (RM4mil) and H 6 (RM3.38mil).
In a separate development, Loke said the RM50 monthly MyKomuter50 pass offered by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad is expected to be introduced by January next year at the latest.
He said the pass would let Malaysians travel unlimited times on KTM commuter services for 30 days, helping reduce transport costs and the cost of living.
He added that the initiative could help a commuter travelling from Tanjung Malim to Kuala Lumpur save RM366 a month, while those travelling from Alor Setar to Butterworth could save up to RM250.
“Meanwhile, commuters using the KTM Southern Shuttle service between Kluang and Johor Baru could save more than RM200 a month, while those travelling from Seremban to Kuala Lumpur could save at least RM300.”
