Search for missing people in several parts of Sabah continues

KOTA KINABALU: Rescue personnel in Sabah are still searching for several people who had gone missing as well as retrieving bodies following various mishaps over the past few days.

In the first case, an 18-year-old boy was found dead in a pond near Jalan Jalil Alip Batu 13, Sandakan, a day after he was reported missing on Tuesday (Jan 4).

Sabah Fire and Rescue Department operations chief Misran Bisara said the victim has been identified as Anas Ibrahim Abdullah, who was reported missing at about 8.26pm when he did not return home after going to his farm in the jungle.

“We were told that he went to the farm with some friends for some leisure activities but was reported missing from the group,” said Misran.

“Anas’ body was found in the pond at around 8.30am on Wednesday (Jan 5) and was handed over to the police for further action,” he added when contacted.

In Ranau, the search is on for a 65-year-old farmer who failed to return home from a hunting trip since Jan 1.

Misran said Moijin Gamiyan had gone into jungle not far from his house at Kg Tinanom to set up some animal traps before his family reported him missing on Jan 4.

He then added that in Kuala Penyu, the search for a missing fisherman entered its third day on Wednesday (Jan 5).

Mohammad Sharijan Sani, 39, had gone missing when fishing at sea off Kg Lambidan on Monday (Jan 3).
