Former Warisan veep to go ahead with forming new party

KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Peter Anthony, who recently quit Parti Warisan Sabah, is going ahead with his plan to form a new party.

The former Warisan vice-president said that he felt confident in this new party that he had formed, and said it would act as a unifying factor not only for the existing Kadazandusun Murut (KDMR) parties in Sabah, but all leaders in the state.

"We are thankful for the invitation from Sabah STAR for us to join them but this new party has been formed and it will be announced very soon," said the Melalap assemblyman.

Peter said this in response to Jeffrey’s invitation for him and Limbahau assemblyman Datuk Juil Nuatim to join Sabah STAR.

He said the KDMR in Sabah had been divided by different political ideologies for too long, and it was time for them to be united.

He said this new party, which would be friendly to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS)-led state government, would gain the support from Sabahans.

Peter said the coalition of government-friendly political parties would be the choice of the people, as seen in the recent Sarawak polls.

"Let us all work together. What is past, is part. Focus on Sabah’s development.

"We strive and pray that through ‘pisompuruan; (unity in the native tongue), Sabah will prosper," he said.

Peter and Juil quit Warisan on Tuesday (Dec 28) and announced that they were planning to form a new party and join Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS), led by Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.

The GRS-led state government has not responded to Peter’s plan to have his new party join the coalition.
