PETALING JAYA: Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah has advised the rakyat, especially those in east coast states, to be prepared for the eventuality of massive flooding due to continuous downpour.
The King's royal advice came after the Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issued a yellow alert of continuous rain forecast for the states of Sabah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang and Johor following the current monsoon surge which is expected to continue until Jan 2 next year.
Comptroller of the Royal Household Datuk Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin, in a statement on Wednesday (Dec 29), said the King also advised those living in flood-prone areas to be aware of the forecasts and warnings issued by the authorities and to be alert in the event that water levels increase drastically due to heavy rainfall.
"This includes adhering to the instructions and guidance issued by the local authorities if evacuation is necessary for the safety of one's own self and beloved family members," said Ahmad Fadil.
The King also urged all parties to learn from the previous flooding incidents and to improve on weaknesses as well as shortfalls in facing all possibilities, especially post-flood management.
"In line with that, the King advises all government agencies and local authorities to be proactive in ensuring preparedness, coordination and management to face the second wave of the floods at the best level.
"The King expresses hope and confidence that with early preparations followed by well-planned actions, rescue operations and aid delivery to flood victims can be executed quickly and effectively, especially in helping those living in high density and rural areas," said Ahmad Fadil.
The King has also called upon the rakyat to pray together for the second wave of the floods to not be prolonged, and for the country as well as its people to be protected from all disasters.
