KUALA LUMPUR: Three water diversions have been installed to channel water away from the partial landslide at the Seri Duta 1 condominium in Taman Duta here, says Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Beh Eng Lai.

"The condominium is located at the lowest level of the surrounding area and water flow was concentrated in the area.

"It had eroded the soil, and water diversions had to be built to channel water away from the landslide.

"So far, it has proven effective," he told a press conference at the entrance of the condominium on Monday (Dec 27).

ACP Beh said cracks had been found in the condominium's foundation supporting the residence.

"The management, together with the Public Works Department and consultant Kumpulan Ikram Sdn Bhd, will continue to monitor the situation," ACP Beh said, adding that police will check on the slope every two hours.

The partial landslide happened at around 10.30pm on Dec 18.

About 100 residents from four blocks consisting of 34 units were evacuated on the same day as the properties were deemed unsafe for occupation.

Police and Civil Defence Force officers were seen checking on the slope condition.

Two lorries filled with sand and construction materials, believed to be for slope strengthening works, were seen being unloaded in the condominium compound.

Seri Duta 1 residents association committee member Benjamin Chan said slope stabilisation works will begin very soon.

"Our engineers are coming out with plans but at this moment we can't say more.

"But stabilisation works are beginning very soon," he said.

"We are working closely with the relevant authorities to address soil movement on the hill slope surrounding and affecting our property.

"Precautionary and mitigation measures were taken immediately to prevent further damage.

"We also thank KL City Hall, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim and other authorities for taking responsibility and coming forward to help us," he added.
