PETALING JAYA: About 150 people in Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam were rescued from their flooded houses by the MCA Youth and Johor MCA's Crisis Relief Squad (CRSM).

In thanking the team, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong said Johor MCA Youth chief Ling Tian Soon, who is also his political secretary, rushed back to Johor and managed to arrange several rescue boats to be sent to the flooded areas in Selangor immediately after the MCA general assembly on Sunday (Dec 19) afternoon.

“At 8am on Monday (Dec 20) morning, our group of 47 volunteers arrived here for the rescue operation and distribute food and drinks to the victims who were still trapped in the house.

“From 8am until about 3pm, five units of our rescue boats went in and out of Taman Sri Muda for 30 times and managed to evacuate 150 victims out of their flooded houses.

“They include a six-month-old baby and a 75-year-old victim.

“The victims were rescued out of their homes and taken to their relatives who were waiting in distress outside the flooded area or taken to a nearby temporary evacuation centre,” the Transport Minister said in a Facebook post on Monday (Dec 20).

Dr Wee added that there were victims who refused to leave because they wanted to take care of their homes.

“Therefore, our volunteers distributed food and drinks to them so that they could survive in the event of water disruption and power outage,” he said.

He also applauded all CRSM members for their continuous help and prayed for the safety of flood victims.
