More than 1,000 evacuated from flood-hit areas in Klang


KLANG: More than one thousand people have been displaced here following prolonged rain since Friday (Dec 17).

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Norazam Khamis said 1,011 people had to be evacuated because of floods.

"As of 7am today (Saturday Dec 18), we have opened three evacuation centres at Sekolah Kebangsaan Telok Gong, Masjid Al-Islah and Masjid Al-Ubudiah here.

"At the school, 681 victimis are seeking temporary shelter while 256 victims were sent to Masjid Al-Islah and 74 victims to Masjid Al-Ubudiah," he said when contacted.

He said evacuations were still ongoing and it was still raining in the affected areas.

"Among the areas where we received information about flooding are Kampung Perigi Nenas, Pulau Indah, Persiaran Raja Muda Musa, Port Klang Industrial Park, Jalan Perepat, Jalan Pisang and Jalan Tanjung at Kampung Sijangkang, Taman Dato Hormat, Kampung Nelayan and Kampung Idaman at Telok Gong, Jalan Parajurit, Jalan Bandar Lama, Kampung Kereta Api, Jalan Sungai Nangka, Jalan Durian at Kampung Kanchong, Kampung Sungai Pinang, Kampung Johan Setia,Jalan Sungai Air Keroh at Sepang, Kampung Cincang, and Kampung Giching.

"We also received information about fallen trees at Bandar Botanik and Ladang Bukit Tinggi in Kuala Langat," he said.

Meanwhile the Meteorological Department has issued a bad weather notice on its Facebook page.

The notice states that prolonged heavy rain is expected at Lipis, Jerantut, Maran and Kuantan in Pahang.

It added that prolonged rain is also expected to continue at Kuala Kangsar, Manjung, Kinta, Perak Tengah, Kampar, Bagan Datuk, Hilir Perak, Batang Padang and Mualim in Perak.

The same is expected in Cameron Highlands, Raub, Bentong, Temerloh and Bera as well as Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan and Terengganu.
