Cops bust snatch theft gang in Klang, four arrested

KLANG: A gang of snatch thieves led by a man previously charged under the Prevention of Crime Act (Poca) have been busted by the police.

South Klang OCPD Asst Comm Cha Hoong Fong, at a press conference at the district police headquarters, said that the main suspect was detained under Poca for two years in Penang, from 2017 to 2019.

The gang was busted following an incident on Sept 25 in Palm Grove Klang, where a 55-year-old man was robbed while walking.

"On Dec 9, a police team raided multiple areas within Klang, leading to four arrests. All had prior records for criminal and drug-related offences.

"The gang, dubbed Gang Dubuk, was led by the main suspect and has been active since July this year. They mainly targeted women and foreigners," he said.

All have been remanded until Dec 19 and the suspects have confessed to around 20 cases within the district.

"Investigations are still ongoing to determine if they had been involved in other cases," he said.

In an unrelated incident, the police have busted a ketum water processing lab.

It was made on Dec 12 at a house in Pulau Indah, with four men arrested.

Around 600 litres of bottled ketum water were seized, along with 648 bottles of cough medicine.

"We believe that their intended market was local. We are also still investigating the source of the cough medicine and ketum leaves," he said.

The estimated value of the seized medicine and ketum water is around RM12,000.
