Sarawak Polls: Aspirasi candidate for Padungan told to take down billboard

KUCHING: Sarawak People's Aspiration Party (Aspirasi) candidate for Padungan, Lina Soo, has been ordered to take down her billboard, which the Election Commission deems provocative.

She said the EC enforcement officers had notified her of this, saying that her billboard was provocative.

"They will not tell me which is the offensive element. I will, of course, follow the instructions and directive of the EC," she said in a statement on Thursday (Dec 9).

The billboard in question was placed at a roundabout in Padungan.

The billboard states "Sarawak wake up" with a map of Malaysia, but with a scissor dividing the peninsula and Sarawak.

Aspirasi is fighting for an independence referendum.

Soo, who was also Aspirasi president, said while she had asked for some time to bring the billboard down, the enforcement officers had demanded for it to be done immediately.

"I have until tomorrow (Friday) to do so," she said.
