Covid-19: 98.5% of new cases in Categories One and Two, say Dr Noor Hisham

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 98.5% or 6,282 cases out of the total 6,380 new Covid-19 cases reported on Thursday (Nov 18) comprised those in categories one and two.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement on Thursday said the remaining 1.5%, or 98 cases, were in categories three, four and five.

He added that 541 cases were currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) nationwide, while 263 cases required respiratory assistance.

According to Dr Noor Hisham, another 5,760 recoveries were recorded on Thursday, bringing the cumulative number of those cured to 2,472,283.

Meanwhile, he said 88 new cases of Covid-19 protein spike mutation variants were reported, and all of them were of the Delta variant (B.1.617.2), which is a Variant of Concern (VOC), taking the cumulative number of VOC and Variant of Interest (VOI) to date to 3,918.

"Of the total detected, 3,898 cases are VOC while 20 cases are VOI," he said.
