Cops detain aunt after boy falls to death at Selayang condo

KUALA LUMPUR: Police here have arrested a woman after her five-year-old nephew fell to his death while he was supposed to be under her care.

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Zainal Mohamed Mohamed said they were alerted to the case at around 10.48am on Wednesday (Nov17).

"A man called us to inform us that a boy had fallen from the sixteenth floor of a condominium at Selayang," he said.

"Investigations showed the apartment unit was occupied by two adult women and two children including the victim," added ACP Zainal Mohamed in a statement on Thursday (Nov 18).

He said the victim's mother had left to go to a shop at around 9.30am and left her two children with her sister.

"About an hour later the woman went to check on the children and realised that the boy was missing. She immediately called her sister," said ACP Zainal Mohamed.

"The woman rushed back and found her son laying motionless on the ground on the second floor of the condominium complex," he added

ACP Zainal Mohamed said police have arrested a 36-year-old woman to help with further investigations.

"Checks revealed the woman has five prior records for drug related offences," he added

"We have opened investigations for negligence leading to the death of a child under Section 31 (1)(5b) of the Child Act 2001," said ACP Zainal Mohamed, adding that the suspect would be remanded.

He also urged anyone with information on the case to contact Investigating Officer Insp Mohd Nizar Adnan at 03-61262222 or 013-9961892.
