Kelantan gets RM1.3bil for four flood mitigation projects, says MB


KOTA BARU (Bernama): The federal government's allocation of RM1.3bil to Kelantan for four flood mitigation projects under the first rolling plan of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) will be able to prevent damage and reduce the effects of flooding, says Datuk Mohd Ama Nik Abdullah (pic).

The Kelantan Deputy Mentri Besar said with the allocation, the state government's earlier efforts in submitting proposals and applications have finally borne fruit.

"Alhamdulillah, we are thankful for the help and hope the projects could be implemented as soon as possible as the flood are a yearly occurence in the state,” he said when contacted by Bernama here Thursday (Nov 4).

Earlier, Environment and Water Minister, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man said, in a Facebook post Thursday, that the government had approved RM9.19bil for 98 flood mitigation projects under the 12MP Rolling Plan 1 nationwide.

Of the total he said, Kedah and Kelantan received the highest allocations amounting RM1.3bil each, involving eight and four projects, respectively, followed by Pahang (RM1.2bil, five projects), Melaka (RM1bil, eight projects), Sabah (RM806mil, 17 projects), Perak (RM640mil, nine projects), Johor (RM523mil, four projects), Terengganu (RM450mil, nine projects) and Sarawak (RM408mil, 12 projects).

The allocation also involves Kuala Lumpur (RM344mil, two projects), Perlis (RM332mil, one project), Penang (RM260mil, seven projects), Selangor (RM155mil, three projects), Negri Sembilan (RM128mil, four projects) and RM356mil for five other related projects. - Bernama
