MPs to receive Covid-19 booster shots from Tuesday (Nov 2)

KUALA LUMPUR: MPs will receive their Covid-19 booster shots in Parliament from Tuesday (Nov 2) so they can have greater protection against the coronavirus, especially the Delta variant.

Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon (pic) said the Health Ministry had started to give booster shots since Oct 13 to fully vaccinated individuals.

"Following that, to protect the YBs who have the responsibility to be together with the rakyat often and who are at risk of contracting Covid-19, the ministry will give (the MPs) booster shots starting from Tuesday and on another date that will be announced soon," Mohd Rashid told the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Nov 1).

The administering of the booster dose will begin at 9.30am at Parliament's banquet hall.

The Deputy Speaker urged all MPs to contact Datuk Dr Murugesu Raju at the Parliament clinic for further information on the booster dose.

Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (IND-Muar) interjected to ask whether or not AstraZeneca recipients will be eligible to receive the booster dose.

The deputy speaker asked the Muar MP to direct his question to Dr Murugesu.

On a separate matter, he announced that Parliament will only sit from 10am to 2pm on Wednesday in conjunction with the Deepavali celebration on Thursday (Nov 4).

"This is to allow MPs to go back to their constituencies earlier to celebrate Deepavali," he added.
