Covid-19: No one above the law when it comes to SOPs, says PM

PUTRAJAYA: No one is above the law when it comes to the standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent Covid-19 infections, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic).

The Prime Minister said the relevant Act is clear on the offences and penalties imposed, adding that SOP must be followed.

“If one violates the SOPs, action will definitely be taken against the offender, irrespective of the individual or party. They cannot hide from the law," said Ismail Sabri.

“Therefore, I hope all will abide by the SOPs so that they need not face the wrath of the law,” he added on Monday (Nov 1).

He had been asked about political parties being issued with compound notices for violating SOP in relation to the Melaka state polls.

On this, Ismail Sabri said political parties are also subject to the law.

PKR information chief Datuk Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin was reported to have said that his party election team was slapped with a RM10,000 compound notice for an attempt to hold a “mobile” political ceramah at Paya Rumput on Oct 30.

On Oct 27, Parti Ikatan Demokratik Malaysia (Muda) had been issued a RM4,000 fine for violating the ban on rallies by holding a press conference.

Gatherings and rallies in relation to the Melaka state election are not permitted.

The Health Ministry has issued a ban on any election-related activities, gatherings or social gatherings until Nov 27.
