KUALA LUMPUR: A motion to discuss the Pandora Papers leak in Parliament has been submitted by Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (pic) to Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun.
The motion was submitted on Monday (Oct 4) morning under Standing Order 18(1) which states that any member of the House, other than a minister, may request for a matter of urgent public importance to be debated.
"I urge Parliament to immediately debate this pressing matter as it has mentioned several big names in the country.
"I believe this matter is of public interest because political figures from the government and also the Opposition are mentioned," he said in a Facebook post Monday.
The Pandora Papers are a data leak, the largest of its kind, involving 2.94 terabytes of data provided anonymously to the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ).
Nearly 12 million documents and other records from 14 offshore service providers that set up and manage shell companies and trusts in tax havens around the world are contained in the data.
