Sarawak Socso: Over RM750,000 paid to those infected with Covid-19 at workplaces

SIBU: The Sarawak Social Security Organisation (Socso) has paid RM772,761 in compensation to employees infected with Covid-19 at workplaces, involving 1,045 cases from January to September this year.

Its director Philip Sangkan said Socso received a total of 1,713 applications but only 1,045 were approved.

As for 2020, Socso approved 15 cases from 31 applications involving a RM34,000 total payout.

On the Wage Subsidy Programme 4.0 (PSU 4.0), Philip said RM4.3mil was distributed from January to August this year to 701 employers which helped to retain 5,177 workers.

"We encourage employers who are affected by the Covid-19 pandemic to register for PSU 4.0 as soon as possible as the deadline is on Oct 31. We can distribute aid up to RM600 per worker to employers," he told reporters during the Sibu-level Socso's Golden Jubilee celebration on Friday (Oct 1).

On MyFuture job, which is a platform under the Human Resource Ministry, he said a total of 3,299 employers offering 158,000 jobs had registered up to Aug 31 this year.

"At the same time, there were 31,000 job seekers registered with the platform and we managed to find jobs for 6,943.

"As of Aug 31,we managed to register 4,538 self-employed individuals and collected a total contribution of RM878,000.

"Though it is not compulsory, I encourage those who are self-employed to register with us as. With a contribution of just RM13.10 per month, the coverage is very wide," he said.
