Five more flood relief centres open in Kedah


ALOR SETAR (Bernama): Five more flood relief centres have been opened in Kedah as of 8am Thursday (Sept 30), bringing the total number to 15.

Kedah Civil Defence Force Disaster Operations Division chief Captain (PA) Saifuddin Abdullah said the four newly opened centres in Baling and one in Sik are housing 264 people from 99 families.

"The four centres in Baling are SK Malau, SMK Parit Panjang, Surau Barakah Tembak B and Kampung Padang Kupang while the one in Sik is at SK Sik," he said in a statement Thursday.

Saifuddin said a total 235 people from 89 families were housed at 12 relief centres in Baling while in Sik, 19 evacuees from four families were placed at SK Gulau and SK Sik.

"The number of evacuees being accommodated at SK Bukit Tampoi in Padang Terap has decreased to 10 people from six families," he said.

The other eight relief centres that are still active in Baling are SK Tunku Putera, SK Siong, SK Bandar, SK Tanjung Pari, SK Bayu, SK Titi Gantung, Banggol Derom Hall and Maktab Mahmud Baling. - Bernama
