Covid-19: Fake news, orphans and unvaccinated teachers to be raised in Parliament on Monday (Sept 20)


KUALA LUMPUR: Fake Covid-19 news, children made orphans by the pandemic and unvaccinated teachers are some of the issues to be highlighted in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (Sept 20).

Datuk Azizah Mohd Dun (PN-Beaufort) wants to know what steps are being taken by the Communications and Multimedia Ministry to prevent abuse of social media especially Facebook and WhatsApp with regard to Covid-19.

She will be raising the issue with Tan Sri Annuar Musa in light of the anxiety caused by such abuses, particularly with regard to Covid-19 vaccines.

Hannah Yeoh (PH-Segambut), on the other hand, wants to know the number of children who were made orphans due to the pandemic.

She will be asking Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun what is to become of these children.

She also wants to know if the affected children had lost both parents or either one of them or their guardian to the virus.

Sabri Azit (PN-Jerai) wants to know from Education Minister Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin how some 18,000 teachers are selected by this ministry.

Sabri also wants to know the actual number of teachers who have received their vaccines.

Meanwhile, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (PH-Port Dickson) will be asking Energy and Natural Resources Minister Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan how his ministry is monitoring logging activities in the forest.

Anwar wants to know this in relation to logging in areas in gazetted reserves and actions taken on cases of such encroachments.

Lawmakers are also scheduled to resume debates on the Royal Address today.

The meeting of the Fourth Session of the 14th Parliament is the first under the government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The parliamentary meeting will last for 17 days till Oct 12.
