Royal nod for new approach

PETALING JAYA: The prospect of a new political landscape from a bipartisan administration and consensus approach between the government and Opposition has got the King’s approval.

Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah advised all parties to practise democracy by consensus so as to find solutions to whatever problems the country faced.

“In this respect, I welcome the government’s move to give others an opportunity, including MPs, to participate in the administration of the nation,” he said in his Royal Address when opening the first meeting of the fourth session of the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

“I also welcome and appreciate the cooperation through a bipartisan approach which has the potential to shape a new political landscape for the nation.”

His Majesty noted that such a mature approach was what the rakyat desired.

“Where those who win, do not win everything and those who lose, do not lose all.

“It is only though unity, consensus and togetherness as a Malaysian Family can we be able to overcome challenges and trials that come our way,” he said.

The King also advised all MPs not to gamble away the nation’s future and that of the people to achieve specific agendas.

His Majesty noted that he received hundreds of letters from the rakyat, sharing their grief and hoping for change so that they could get on with their lives.

He urged the new government to intensify its effort to fight the pandemic.

“I believe this government will be able to deliver early achievements within 100 days of its administration,” he added.

The King also noted he was satisfied that Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob had secured the majority support of 114 lawmakers in accordance with the Federal Constitution, with regards to his appointment as the ninth Prime Minister.

This parliamentary session is the first under the government led by Ismail Sabri.

Based on the calendar of the Dewan Rakyat meeting, this session will be for 17 days until Oct 12.
