PM: This is Keluarga Malaysia

PETALING JAYA: A historic agreement has been reached between the government and Pakatan Harapan for bipartisan cooperation towards stability and reforms for the nation, says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Prime Minister hailed the inking of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) as a “historic milestone” that would transform the nation’s political landscape in line with the King’s advice.

“As mentioned, His Majesty’s aspiration is for all parties to practise consensus democracy in seeking solutions.

“This is the Keluarga Malaysia spirit that emphasises unity, consensus and togetherness shown in the MOU,” he said in a statement following the signing in Parliament yesterday.

He noted that transformation would not only encourage greater excellence in managing the fight against the pandemic but also in the nation’s economic recovery.

“It will also be a catalyst for a conducive climate for investors while at the same time spurring economic growth for the well-being of the Malaysian Family,” he added. The MOU covers six areas, namely empowering the Covid-19 plan, administrative transformation, rejuvenation of Parliament, independence of judicial institutions, Malaysia Agreement (MA63) and the setting up of a steering committee.

“The government is confident the MOU not only sets aside all political differences but will also ensure recovery takes place holistically and in an inclusive manner,” said Ismail Sabri.

The MOU was inked by Ismail Sabri, Dewan Negara president Tan Sri Rais Yatim, Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Azhar Azizan Harun, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu and Upko president Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau.

Among those who were present to witness the event were Ketereh MP Tan Sri Annuar Musa, Seremban MP Anthony Loke, Senator Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin, Kulim Bandar Baharu MP Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Pulai MP Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

Earlier in the day, the King, in his Royal Address when opening the Dewan Rakyat meeting, advised the lawmakers to work together through a bipartisan and consensus approach.
