34 nabbed for SOP violation at Bukit Mertajam pub


BUTTERWORTH: Police detained 34 individuals including the pub owner at a pub here in Bukit Mertajam for flouting standard operating procedures (SOPs) on Friday (Sept 10).

Central Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Shafee Abdul Samad said 27 men and seven women were detained around 8.30pm and issued with compound notices.

In a separate operation by a team of police from the Prai police station at 7.50pm, an employer of a plastics manufacturing company was detained for allowing his worker to work despite being under quarantine for Covid-19.

“For both operations, the individuals were found to have committed offences under Section 16 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act.

“They were all issued with compound notices according to their magnitude of offence as stipulated by the Health Ministry.

“We hope to remind the public to abide by all the SOPs as police will not hesitate to take stern action against those found flouting the rules.
