Covid-19: Another 20,396 cases and 336 fatalities recorded


PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia recorded 20,396 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the nation's cumulative total to 1,844,835.

In a tweet on Sunday (Sept 5), the Health Ministry said of the figure, 20,388 were local infections while eight were imported cases.

Another 336 people succumbed to Covid-19, bringing the country's death toll to 18,219.

It also said there were 20,573 recoveries for a total of 1,570,827 to date.

The number of active cases is now 255,789.

Of this number, 959 are in intensive care units (ICU), with 436 requiring ventilator support.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah tweeted that Selangor continued to record the most new cases with 3,886 infections, followed by Sarawak (3,747), Johor (2,165) and Sabah (2,136).

Only three localities recorded less than 100 new infections – Perlis with 78 new cases, Putrajaya (25) and Labuan (four).
