Unscheduled water cuts again in Klang Valley due to odour pollution

PETALING JAYA: A total of 463 areas in five regions in the Klang Valley will be experiencing an unscheduled water disruption due to a shutdown of the Sungai Semenyih Water Treatment Plant (WTP), following odour pollution.

“The Sungai Semenyih WTP had to be shut down at 5.15pm on Friday (Sept 3), following an odour pollution incident detected in the Sungai Semenyih raw water source,” said Air Selangor in a Facebook post.

“The disruption will affect five regions - Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54 areas), Sepang (194 areas), Putrajaya (23 areas) and Kuala Langat (20 areas).”

The post did not indicate when the water supply would resume.

Meanwhile, Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) posted on its social media platform that it received a report from Air Selangor regarding an odour pollution of up to two tonnes at RMS Kg Sg Buah at 4pm today.

“LUAS, Air Selangor and other relevant parties will conduct immediate investigations and mitigation actions on the matter.

“Any developments will also be updated from time to time,” said LUAS in its post.

A total of 463 areas in the Klang Valley had experienced similar unscheduled water cuts on Aug 31, also due to odour pollution.

The odour pollution detected at the water intake for the Jenderam Hilir Raw Water Pump Station led to a temporary shutdown of the Semenyih WTP.

Water supply in the affected areas was fully restored by Sept 2.
