Undying spirit of patriotism

Celebrating with pride: Justin Jacks, nine (left), and Fikri Asmadi, 12, riding their Jalur Gemilang-decorated bikes in Batu Kawan. The duo had some decorating help from Sahul Hamid (below), who equally loves riding his bike around town.

BATU KAWAN: Despite the sarcastic remarks by some quarters, Sahul Hamid Abdullah’s passion for decorating his motorcycle with mini flags of Jalur Gemilang for the National Day celebration has not dampened.“Some people think I’m crazy when they see the Malaysian flag decorated all over my motorcycle. But I don’t care.

“If only they know the true meaning of independence, then they will understand,” said Sahul Hamid, 53, who has been doing it for the past six years.
