Ismail Sabri appeals to all MPs to work together to help the nation

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has appealed to all members of the Dewan Rakyat - both in the government and the Opposition - to work together and help the nation recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.

He urged everyone to have an open mind and heart to look at their similarities and not focus on their differences.

“We need to find common ground to save our family, the Malaysian Family (Keluarga Malaysia),” said Ismail Sabri.

We need to find common ground and move towards building a consensus for the security and safety of our family, the Malaysian Family. I adapt to the concept of Malaysian Family as this phrase is inclusive in nature,” he added in his maiden speech as the Prime Minister on Sunday (Aug 22).

He said the concept cuts across boundaries of religions, races and ethnicities.

“We do realise the existence of inter-marriage families of various races and religions which possess strong family bonds. Thus, the concept of the Malaysian Family is akin to the strength of a nation bound together by such values,” he said.

He said that every Malaysian was part of a family despite the diversity of religions, races and ethnicities.

“Every single one of you resembles my very own family - regardless of age differences. We complement each other and are in need of one another as part of a single body,” he said.

He added that he realises the hardships, the sufferings, and difficulties of life that are gripping everyone.

“Some have lost their livelihoods, some of their ability to put food on the table and many are jobless,” said Ismail Sabri.

“I understood the hardship of having to struggle for even a mouthful of rice since I was brought up in a poor farmer family. Therefore, I solemnly understood the difficulties that the people face during this economic crisis brought about by the pandemic,” he added.

He said that the common enemy was the Covid-19 pandemic, with the world facing a critical situation posed by an ever-evolving virus, from an alpha variant to a beta variant and now the latest, the lambda variant.

He said that henceforth, the previous government strategies would be enhanced via collective views among our national Public Health experts.

Ismail Sabri was appointed as Prime Minister after securing majority support of 114 MPs after Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin stepped down as the premier on Monday (Aug 16).

9th PRIME MINISTER’S SPEECH YAB DATO’ SRI ISMAIL SABRI YAAKOB

BISMILLAHIRRAHMAANIRRAHIM Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh and Salam Sejahtera.

Praise to Allah, and let us express our utmost gratification towards The Almighty for His Guidance and mercy, in showing us the way in getting out of this pandemic, economic crisis and political upheaval that has shrouded our nation in last few months.

1. Allow me to menjunjung kasih towards His Majesty Duli Yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah Ibni Almarhum Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah Al-Musta’in Billah, along with all of the Malay Rulers, for consenting my appointment as the Prime Minister of Malaysia in this challenging moment.

2. I would also like to express my utmost appreciation and gratification to Yang Berhormat Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, the former Prime Minister of Malaysia who had done his very best in facing numerous challenges along with the cabinet members of Perikatan National (PN). Once again, I thank you.

3. With deepest humility and gratification, I would like to thank my fellow Parliamentarians from UMNO, MCA, MIC and PBRS under the banner of Barisan Nasional (BN) for their loyal continuous support. 4. I would also like to acknowledge my fellow Parliamentarians from PPBM, PAS, GPS, STAR, PBS, SAPP, and all the independent Parliamentarians whose support had enabled the formation of today’s government.

5. I would like to urge all Members of Dewan Rakyat, whether within or outside of the Government to work together to help our nation recover. Let us open our minds and hearts to forget our differences by working together. We need to find a common ground and move towards building a consensus for the security and safety of our family, Malaysian Family.

6. I adapt to the concept of Malaysian Family as this phrase is inclusive in nature. Which cuts across boundaries of religion, race and ethnic. We do realise the existence of inter-marriage families with various races and religions, and yet possesses strong family bond. Thus, the concept of Malaysian Family is akin to the strength of a nation bound together by such values.

MY BELOVED MALAYSIAN FAMILY,

7. We are all a part of a family despite diversity of religion, race and ethnic. Every single one of you resembles my very own family – regardless of age difference. We are complementing and in need of one another as parts of a single body.

8. I sincerely realise the hardships, the sufferings and the difficulties of life that are gripping us all. Some have lost their livelihoods, some of their ability to put food on the table and many are jobless.

9. I understood the hardship of having to struggle for even a mouthful of rice since I was brought up in a poor farmer family. Therefore, I solemnly understood the difficulties that the people face during this economic crisis brought about by the pandemic.

MY BELOVED MALAYSIAN FAMILY,

10. Our common enemy is the COVID-19 pandemic. The world is facing a critical situation posed by an ever-evolving virus, from an alpha variant to a beta variant and now the latest the lambda variant. Henceforth, the previous government strategies will be enhanced via collective views amongst our national Public Health experts.

11. I will ensure that each effort and intervention by the Government to bring down the number of COVID-19 cases in the country is more comprehensive. The implementation will be carried out via strategic inter-governmental cooperation and with involvement of all stakeholders from both public and private sector in order to ensure our national health care system is restabilised.

12. Through the continuous efforts of the previous Government, vaccination rate in Malaysia has become one of the fastest in the world. Malaysia consistently rolled out more than 500,000 doses a day.

13. Based on that data, therefore this government will pursue the previous government’s efforts in implementing measures in order for us to swiftly move to the next phase of recovery through herd immunity.

14. To achieve the target sooner, this government will further strengthen the implementation of strategies and initiatives in increasing the coverage of the Malaysia’s National COVID-19 Immunization Program (PICK).

15. Therefore, I would like to thank all Malaysians who have given full cooperation by coming forward to be vaccinated. Our ability in fighting successfully against this pandemic requires the commitment from all Malaysian families. For those who have yet to register, do appeal to our family members as soon as possible.

16. By doing so, we are assisting and appreciating the sacrifices of our frontliners who are still struggling to ensure that we can live our lives in the new norm.

17. In conjunction with the success of our vaccination program, we are optimistic with the future prospect of back to visiting parents in hometown, celebrating festivities and travelling domestically. Youngsters can once again enjoy recreational activities, return to their higher learning institutions and most importantly our children can return to school.

18. This is not just an empty dream, we have previously managed to bring down the statistic of COVID-19 patients. Based on last Friday data, 20 August 2021, the daily cases in Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan have dropped drastically to a single digit for seven days in a row after achieving 90 percent of adult herd immunity.

19. This does not mean that we will be completely free from the threat of COVID-19. Rather, when we have reached herd immunity, the virus will not pose serious threat as it today.

20. In catalysing the achievement of heard immunity as in Labuan, as a good news in conjunction with the National Day celebration, I am glad to announce the additional purchase of 6 million doses of vaccines which will arrive in early September 2021.

MY BELOVED MALAYSIAN FAMILY,

21. The pandemic crisis has brought serious holistic impact to the global economy, including our domestic economy. Various industrial sectors, especially the small medium industries have been severed. Some are still struggling while others have gone bankrupt. This has brought severe impact on our people’s economy and country at large.

22. In reducing those long-term negative economic, this government will be focusing on achieving these two main objectives.

23. The first objective, is returning the public prosperity by amplifying efforts in escalating the purchasing power among the domestic consumers. Whilst the second objective, is to strengthen the private sector’s roles as significant drivers of nation’s economic growth.

24. Consequently, our focus will be on Malaysians who have lost their jobs and their only source of income, middle-income Malaysians, small and medium industries (PKS) as well as industrial sectors which includes domestic tourism.

25. Such focus are some of the short term initiatives in returning the vibrance of people’s economy as well as stimulating the the national economy holistically.

26. I will personally ensure that no one will be left behind of neglected, regardless of race, religion and ethnic differences.

27. Our efforts will not end here. We will continue working with the people to develop new economic strategies and implementing other vital strategies. This is to further strengthen our economic fundamentals and put Malaysia once again as the premier investment destination in Southeast Asia.

28. To maintain and achieve the stated objectives, we need involvement of young Malaysians. For this, I will ensure that the voice of youngsters are heard and considered in this government.

29. To the young people out there, worry not, your involvement are highly appreciated, and it is my fervent hope that you will be together with this government in ensuring the success of our national recovery agenda.

MY BELOVED MALAYSIAN FAMILY,

30. Looking back on the last General Election (GE14), with only 21 months remaining until GE15, the country had seen twice changes of government with two different Prime Ministers. Indeed, such swift changes of government within a short period of time can only be construed as detrimental to the people and country.

31. Thus, let us move forward. We must stamp out this grab for political power. Let us as one big family comprising civil servants, the private sector workers, and those self-employed – in repairing, healing and recovering our nation.

32. His Majesty the King in his meeting with the Heads of all Political Parties recently decreed to all of them to bury their differences for the sake of prosperity and the welfare of the people. All parties should be able to work as a team to preserve the harmony in the country. In other words, we must embrace the spirit of togetherness.

33. I understand that the political turmoil have beseeched the country have distressed the public. Therefore, it is imperative that political stability is swiftly achieved through togetherness, and this includes cross-party cooperation.

34. Therefore, I would like to offer the opportunity to the leadership of the Opposition to be part of the National Recovery Council and the Special Committee on COVID-19.

MY BELOVED MALAYSIAN FAMILY,

35. Together with this government, I will ensure an administrative team that will serve to help our country recover from both the economic and health crisis. I pledge to do my best so that the trust placed in my team and I, is not misplaced.

36. This aspiration can only be attained with the cooperation of the entire civil servants who are the backbone of our national administration.

37. Let us work together as one big Malaysian Family to restore Malaysia back to her level of prosperity that we once accustomed to.

38. I solemnly pledge, TO WORK WITH THE PEOPLE! Thank you.
