KUALA LUMPUR: Thirty one members of Sekretariat Solidariti Rakyat (SSR) were issued with RM2,000 compound notices each for holding a candlelight vigil in memory of all those who died of Covid-19 so far at Dataran Merdeka on Thursday (Aug 19) night.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya said the compounds were issued after the statements of the activists were recorded.

"We detected a gathering organised by SSR at about 8pm at Dataran Merdeka to remember those who died due to Covid-19.

"We discovered they were holding candles and banners," he said when contacted.

Thirty one SSR members were brought to Dang Wangi police headquarters, where their statements were recorded, he added.

"Each of them were issued with a compound notice of RM2,000.

"We are investigating for various offences including violations of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOP)," he said.

ACP Noor Dellhan urged the public to adhere to the SOP, as action can be taken against those who failed to do so.
