Woman found dead in bathroom days after family members admitted to Melaka Hospital

MELAKA: A 60-year-old woman was found dead in her bathroom, days after two family members staying in the same house were hospitalised for Covid-19.

The victim was found dead in the house located in Bukit Punggur in Alai here at about 8.51am on Wednesday (July 21).

Melaka Fire and Rescue Department operation chief Zulkhairani Ramli said they learned that the deceased's 74-year-old husband and another family member were recently admitted to Melaka Hospital for Covid-19.

He said men from the Padang Temu station had to break down the house door to reach the body of the victim.

"Firemen wore personal protective equipment (PPE) and took 15 minutes to gain entry to the bathroom," he said.

Zulkhairani said the victim's neighbour was the person who made a distress call to the emergency line and medical officers who went to the house declared the victim dead.

"Disinfection work was also carried out at the house and the operation ended by 11.40am," he said.

Zulkhairani added that the victim's daughter, who is living in Selangor, has been informed about the death.
