PUTRAJAYA: Police arrested 679 individuals for various standard operating procedure violations on Sunday (July 4).
These include cross-border travel without permission and eating at premises (201), ferrying excess passengers (119), not observing physical distancing (110), failure to abide by movement control orders (88), failure to register when entering premises (56), not wearing face masks (53), premises failing to comply with SOP (26) and other offences (26).
Of those arrested, 666 individuals were slapped with compound notices, eight were remanded and five released on bail.
The task force monitoring standard operating procedure compliance checked 88,875 premises on Sunday, including supermarkets, restaurants, factories, banks, government offices and hawkers.
Also checked were wet markets/pasar tani, places of worship, recreational places and sea transport terminals.
On Ops Benteng, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 16 illegal immigrants were arrested and a land vehicle was seized.
"Enforcement authorities also detected the presence of eight boats in Malaysian waters during six sighting activities," he said on Monday (July 5).
On screening of foreign workers, Ismail Sabri said 38 individuals were tested on July 4 and four tested positive.
Cumulatively, 700,344 foreign workers have been sent for Covid-19 screenings involving 36,395 employers.
During this exercise, which was made mandatory from Feb 1, 10,383 foreign workers were found to be positive for Covid-19.
Ismail Sabri also said 895 individuals arrived in Malaysia on Sunday and all were sent to undergo quarantine at government-designated stations.
Since July 24 last year, a total of 242,273 individuals had returned to the country and were quarantined at 78 hotels and nine training institutes.
