Another person issued with RM5,000 compound notice for allegedly driving on road bordering two districts in Melaka

MELAKA: Another individual has been issued with a RM5,000 compound notice for allegedly crossing district boundaries in the state – this time involving a 34-year-old mother of two, who drove some six kilometres from her home to buy groceries at a hypermarket.

This comes following a case of a 44-year-old woman who was issued a similar compound notice for allegedly driving along a road that smacks right on the borders of two districts.

Melaka Chief Minister's Secretary for Community Affairs, Yong Fun Juan said the second woman was issued the compound on June 21 at a roadblock in Paya Rumput despite explaining to the cops that she needed to buy certain items for her online food delivery business.

"The woman drove from her house at Taman Rembia Utama, which is in Alor Gajah, to the hypermarket at Taman Paya Rumput, located at Melaka Tengah district," he said on Saturday (June 26).

Yong said the woman's husband had lost his job as a construction worker earlier this year due to the impact of Covid-19.

"There are several similar notices of the compound that I am handling, and I was relieved to read that Melaka police chief will be looking into any unfair issuance (of compound notices) following the first case," he said.

Yong said the intervention from Melaka police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Abdul Majid Mohd Ali on such a matter is timely and a piece of great news for the locals.

"Many locals expressed their disappointment over the unfair issuance of compound notices with some turning into a political issue," he said.

On Friday (June 25), DCP Abdul Majid said the welfare of the people comes first especially during this challenging period when responding to the case relating to the 44-year-old self-employed woman.

DCP Abdul Majid said he will look into any unfair issuance of compound notices to the locals.

In the first case, the woman had allegedly crossed the district boundary by driving less than 100m of the border marker to get to a hypermarket at Taman Angkasa Nuri here.

The dual-carriageway, that the woman was driving before the notice was issued, is only separated by a row of botanical trees.

The woman is staying at Taman Idaman at Durian Tunggal that is in the Alor Gajah district, and had travelled 7km from her home to get to the hypermarket to buy groceries.

The hypermarket is also situated in the same district but the woman had to use a parallel road, which is under the jurisdiction of Melaka Tengah authorities in a bid to get to the hypermarket.
