Ismail Sabri: 696 nabbed for SOP violations on Thursday (June 24)


PUTRAJAYA: Police have arrested 696 people for breaching various standard operating procedure (SOP).

The violations include cross-border travel without permission / eating in premises (163), not wearing face masks (156), failure to register when entering a premise (118), no physical distancing (107), failure to abide to movement control order (58), ferrying excess passengers (36), premises failing to comply with the SOP (13) and other offences (45).

Of those arrested on Thursday (June 24), 671 of them were slapped with compound notices while 25 were remanded.

The task force monitoring SOP compliance had checked 97,560 premises including supermarkets, restaurants, factories, banks, government offices and hawkers.

Also inspected were wet markets / pasar tani, places of worship, recreational places and sea transport terminals.

On Ops Benteng, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 25 illegal immigrants were arrested and 14 land vehicles were seized.

“Enforcement authorities also detected the presence of 150 boats in Malaysian waters during 12 sighting activities,” he said in a statement on Friday (June 25).

On screening of foreign workers, Ismail Sabri said 70 of them were tested and all came back negative.

Cumulatively, 699,799 foreign workers were sent for Covid-19 screenings involving 36,324 employers.

During this exercise which was made mandatory from Feb 1, a total of 10,362 foreign workers were found to be positive.

Ismail Sabri also said 349 people returned from overseas on Thursday and all were sent to undergo quarantine at government-designated stations.

Since July 24 last year, a total of 233,654 people came home and were quarantined at 78 hotels and nine training institutes.

On sanitisation of public spaces, 161 operations were carried out nationwide at 66 red, three orange and six yellow zones.

Since March last year, 29,107 sanitisation exercises have been conducted at government offices, supermarkets, business centres and public housing areas.
