KUALA LUMPUR: The Pakatan Harapan presidential council has reiterated its stance that Parliament should reconvene as soon as possible in upholding the order of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers.

PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said in a statement on Wednesday (June 23) that in accordance with Article 150(3) of the Federal Constitution, a Parliament sitting is necessary before Aug 1 so that the Proclamation of Emergency and the Emergency Ordinances can presented and considered by MPs.

"At the same time, the expedited sitting would provide a space for MPs to discuss the National Recovery Plan, measures to address the Covid-19 pandemic, and the need to increase aid for people who are under great pressure at this time," they said.

They added that, with regard to the Prime Minister's proposal to set up a committee to study hybrid Parliamentary sessions, this should not be an excuse for Parliament not to reconvene.

"Therefore, Pakatan is ready to join the committee under the condition that Parliament reconvenes as soon as possible before Aug 1.

"Pakatan will also work on a petition among MPs to be presented to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, to prove that the majority support Parliament reconvening as soon as possible," they said.
