Pakatan leaders say PM should heed King's advice, reconvene Parliament as soon as possible

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should not delay or prolong the suspension of Parliament any longer, says the Pakatan Harapan presidential council.

“It is very clear that the prime minister needs to heed the advice of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on the reconvening of Parliament as soon as possible,” read the statement by PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng on Thursday (June 17).

On Wednesday (June 16), Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Mustafa Billah Shah had expressed his opinion that Parliament must reconvene as soon as possible.

His Majesty said this was to enable the Emergency and the Covid-19 National Recovery Plan to be debated by lawmakers.

The Pakatan leaders said it was important to reconvene Parliament as soon as possible in order for checks and balances and to ensure good governance.

The trio added that with the reconvening of Parliament, the Emergency Ordinances, the national recovery plan and allocations to help the people can be discussed by elected lawmakers.

“If the prime minister continues to delay or give reasons to prolong the suspension of Parliament, it not only means that he refuses to heed the call, but it also gives the impression that he has lost confidence in governing.

”And if the prime minister still refuses to advise Tuanku immediately, he should take the honourable action of resigning," said the Pakatan leaders.
