Covid-19: No segregation practised when administering vaccines, says Khairy

PETALING JAYA: Khairy Jamaluddin has strongly denied claims that Muslims are given the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine while non-Muslims are given those from Sinovac.

The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister denied claims on social media that those receiving vaccines were segregated based on religion and race.

"This is a false statement and one that is irresponsible," he said in a virtual press conference on Thursday (May 27).

Addressing events at the Desa Tasik sports complex vaccination centre in Kuala Lumpur on Monday (May 24), Khairy said that a total of 943 vaccines were administered – 252 Pfizer and 691 Sinovac.

He said that the Pfizer vaccines were given to 169 Muslims and 83 non-Muslims while the Sinovac vaccines were given to 142 Muslims and 549 non-Muslims.

Khairy said there was a group of haj pilgrims who were there to receive their vaccines and they were administered Pfizer vaccines as it was recognised by the Saudi Arabia government.
