PETALING JAYA: Human error is only one of the aspects being investigated by the Transport Ministry as the cause of the LRT collision on Monday (May 24), says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.
"I wish to clarify that the ‘human factor’ is merely a single facet in an investigation of this nature, which also takes into consideration an entire range of technical and operational components," said the Transport Minister.
He added that the nine-person ministerial-level investigative committee headed by Secretary General Datuk Isham Ishak includes subject matter experts, saying they have begun to examine various aspects of the accident.
"We also wish to remind that the hostler (train driver) involved in the incident had tested negative at a drug test conducted by the Royal Malaysia Police on Tuesday (May 25),"said Dr Wee.
Dr Wee added in a statement on Wednesday (May 26) that the hostler must also be given the opportunity to be heard and that there should not be any premature judgement.
"The safety of the LRT transport system as a vital public resource cannot be compromised. Therefore, finding gaps in safety must be paramount," he added.
"In this task, the investigation committee will also seek the views of external parties whose expertise can assist in compiling the final report," said Dr Wee.
