KUALA LUMPUR: Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has given a statement to police after he commented on the death of A. Ganapathy in police custody.
The former Youth and Sports minister arrived at the Dang Wangi police headquarters around 9.55am on Saturday (May 22).
After walking out of the police headquarters at 12.47pm, he said he would give police full cooperation in their investigations over a video he had posted on his Instagram account.
"I was told the case was being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Commission Act and Section 503b of the Penal Code.
"My mobile phone and Instagram account was also seized by the police on the instructions of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission," he told reporters.
He said the video he posted was on urging the government to set up the Independent Police Complaints of Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) after the death of Ganapathy in police custody.
"The former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador and Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption Centre (GIACC) director-general General Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed agreed with the suggestion to set up the IPCMC, which was supposed to be tabled in Parliament on March last year, but it all came to a halt when Pakatan Harapan fell.
"I understand it is still the police responsibility to investigate and I will give them my full cooperation, ” he added.
