S'gor kicks off community Covid-19 testing in Kajang, Semenyih

KLANG: Preparations are underway in Kajang and Semenyih to receive members of the public for Covid-19 screening.

The swab tests are being carried out by the Selangor state government to weed out Covid-19 positive cases from within the local community.

The exercise on Saturday (May 8) involves the Kajang and Semenyih state assembly constituencies and will be held at Dewan Cempaka, Saujana Impian, in Kajang and Dewan Orang Ramai, Bandar Rinching, Semenyih.

The screening exercise will be conducted by Selcare, which is the administrator of the Selangor government’s healthcare programme, Skim Peduli Sihat, with a team of 40 doctors, nurses and non-clinical staff.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari had said that the screening will be carried out in all of the state's 56 state assembly constituencies.

The 20-day exercise begins Saturday and is scheduled to be completed by May 28.

Selcare manager Mohd Noor Md Nasir said they are expecting to screen about 500 people in each constituency.

When contacted, Semenyih's Barisan Nasional assemblyman Zakaria Hanafi urged his constituents to come out and get tested for Covid-19.

"The state government is doing this for free and we are in a red zone.

"Please take this opportunity to get screened," said Zakaria.

He added that people who have had Covid-19 positive cases in their neighbourhood or villages must make it a point to get tested.

The screening exercise begins at 9.00am and ends at 4.00pm and residents had started gathering at the locations as early as 8.00am.
