Paul Yong rape case: No external injuries found on maid, court told

IPOH: No external injuries or bruises were found on the Indonesian maid who was allegedly raped by former Perak executive council member Paul Yong, the High Court here heard.

Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital's medical officer Dr Kate Lynn Ignatius, who is with the emergency and trauma department, said no visible injuries were found on the victim when an examination was conducted on July 8,2019, a day after the incident.

She said a urine test to determine if the victim was pregnant was also conducted, which came out negative.

"After the examination, I referred her to see an obstetrics and gynaecology specialist, as she claimed she was raped.

"The best examination to determine if a rape has occurred is a genital examination," she said, replying to lead DPP Datuk Jamil Aripin.

Jamil asked Dr Ignatius if based on her experience of examining rape victims, if all victims sustained injuries or bruises.

Dr Ignatius said it was not necessarily so and that she had come across cases where no injuries or bruises were found but specialists determined a rape had occurred.

During cross-examination, counsel Datuk Rajpal Singh asked if there would be some kind of injury if the rape was forceful, as claimed by the victim.

Dr Ignatius said some injuries only appear after 24 hours.

"Different cases have different scenarios, depending on the severity of the attack," she said.

Yong's former official driver from the Perak State Secretariat Mohd Ali Ahmad, 51, when testifying, said on July 8,2019, he had gone to Yong's house at 8am and saw the maid sweeping the porch.

Mohd Ali said he was there to take Yong to an official function.

"While washing the car and waiting for him to come out of the house, the maid asked me if I could send her to the Indonesian embassy.

"I told her I could not as I was working and did not ask her why she needed to go to the embassy," he said.

The trial continues on Thursday (April 8).
